The M8S is a professional-grade wireless pen with 10 adjustable speed levels and a precision motor engineered for consistent needle depth. Compared to the A8S (which is also wireless and feature-rich), the M8S offers a slightly different ergonomic grip and motor profile suited for users who prefer a more clinical feel. The M7 is an earlier model with fewer speed settings. If you're upgrading from the M7, the M8S provides noticeably smoother operation and broader cartridge compatibility.

The M8S supports needle depths from 0.25mm to 2.5mm, adjustable in precise increments. For general skin texture and pore refinement, 0.25mm–0.5mm is recommended. For more targeted concerns on thicker skin areas like the cheeks or forehead, 0.5mm–1.5mm is common. Always start shallow if you're a first-time user and gradually increase depth as your skin adapts. Avoid depths above 1.5mm without professional guidance.

The M8S is compatible with Dr.Pen's M8S/A8S/A9/A11 replacement cartridge series. Available pin configurations include 12-Pin, 24-Pin, 36-Pin, 42-Pin, Nano-R, and Nano-S. Each cartridge type is designed for a specific purpose — for example, Nano cartridges are ideal for sensitive areas and fine lines, while 36-Pin or 42-Pin cartridges cover larger surface areas efficiently.

For at-home use, most users see good results with sessions every 2–4 weeks, allowing the skin adequate time to recover between treatments. If you're using shallow depths (0.25mm–0.5mm), you may be able to use it more frequently — every 1–2 weeks. Avoid using the device on skin that is actively irritated, sunburned, or broken. Listen to your skin and space sessions further apart if you notice prolonged redness.

Sensation varies depending on needle depth and individual skin sensitivity. At shallow depths (under 0.5mm), most users feel only a mild tingling. At deeper settings (1.0mm+), some discomfort is normal. Applying a topical numbing cream (containing lidocaine) 20–30 minutes before your session can significantly reduce discomfort. Wipe the numbing cream off completely before starting the device and ensure the skin surface is clean and dry.

Immediately after a session, the skin's absorption is heightened, making it ideal for applying hyaluronic acid serums, peptide serums, or growth factor serums to support recovery. Avoid using active ingredients like retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, vitamin C, or benzoyl peroxide for at least 24–48 hours post-session, as they can cause irritation on sensitized skin. In the days before a session, discontinue retinoids and exfoliating acids for 48–72 hours to reduce the risk of over-sensitization.

The M8S is not suitable for individuals with active acne breakouts, open wounds, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea (in active flare), cold sores, or any active skin infections in the treatment area. It should not be used by people who are pregnant, have a history of keloid scarring, are on blood-thinning medications, or have undergone radiation therapy to the face. If you have any medical conditions or take prescription medications, consult your healthcare provider before use.

Cartridges are single-use and should never be reused, shared, or sterilized for reuse — doing so poses a serious risk of infection and cross-contamination. After each session, carefully remove the used cartridge and dispose of it in a puncture-safe container. Wipe the pen body and cartridge attachment area with a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe. Store unused cartridges in their original sealed packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Mild redness, slight swelling, and skin sensitivity immediately after a session are completely normal and typically subside within 12–24 hours. Pinpoint bleeding at deeper depths (above 1.0mm) is also expected. You should be concerned and seek medical advice if you experience prolonged redness lasting more than 72 hours, signs of infection (warmth, swelling, pus), severe pain, or an allergic reaction. Protect treated skin from direct sun exposure for at least 48 hours and apply SPF 30+ sunscreen when outdoors.
